Hello,
I have an Audi A4 B5 (2000 model year) with a full FIS cluster and a 1.8T engine swap using an ME7.5 ECU.
I have no temperature, speed, or range information displayed on the FIS. The cluster reports an “Engine CAN communication problem.”
The only information being displayed is the battery voltage and which doors are open, so communication with the Comfort CAN bus appears to be working correctly.
I disassembled the instrument cluster to verify that everything was connected properly, but unfortunately the problem persists.
I have already updated the coding/software for the Audi A4 B5 and am wondering whether I should also update or recode it using the configuration from the vehicle that originally had this engine ECU. Could that be the source of the problem?
Could anyone help me with this issue?
Best regards,
Jarek

You replaced this instrument cluster ? Is it not original for your car ? Are you sure the wires from the engine CAN bus to the instrument cluster CAN bus are present in your car ?
If this is a non-modified instrument cluster (without aftermarket screens or add-ons), you can set the value 0 in the adaptation channel 60. In this case, it should operate according to the old scheme (without the engine CAN bus). However, in this case, the engine control unit must also support this connection (without the CAN bus).
Or you need to check and connect the CAN bus wires from the engine control unit to the instrument cluster. In this case, you need to set a value other than zero in the instrument cluster adaptation channel 60.

Thank you for your reply! I haven’t changed the instrument cluster; it’s still the original one. Unfortunately, I don’t know how the entire control unit was changed. However, I do know that everything was displayed correctly on the FIS before, and there were no issues with it.
I’ll check the adaptation you mentioned and let you know the results.

I changed the adaptation channel value to 1025 and everything started working
, except for the communication with the transmission. However, this is another swap I did, because the gearbox is a 6-speed unit from a 2.5 TDI. Unfortunately, I didn’t have the opportunity to check whether it was displaying anything correctly. Whenever I shifted through the gears, the display always showed “N”.
