VCDS instrument cluster output tests and coding

In trying to find out why my instrument cluster recently started to beeps x2 after turning on the car (2003 VW Bora V6 4Motion BDE engine 02M 6 speed manual).

There are no "messages" on color MFA:

However, when I connect an old IMMO3 cluster, it shows 2 errors:
- check brake pads
- top up washer fluid

Using VCDS Instrument Cluster (J285) coding (normally 07724), I disabled washer fluid and brake pad warnings (02724), but the 2 beeps still happened. I coded back to the original.

Also, using VCDS output test 17-Instruments:
1) all 4 needles move as expected

2) segment test (LCD screens) looks fine

3) no icon comes up on the instrument cluster or colorMFA for:
- hot warning light
- brake pad wear indicator light (K32)
- low fuel level warning light (K105)
- engine oil pressure warning light (K3)
- engine oil level indicator light (K38)
- low windshield washer fluid indicator light (K106)

4) rest of the icons show up on the cluster (not colorMFA)
- anti-theft engine light
- handbrake
- seat-belt

Does this mean the wiring wasn't done correctly?

colorMFA was installed by IanPG (from this forum),

This is normal. The ColorMFA shouldn't display any messages. The instrument cluster test only checks the LEDs. The ColorMFA displays real errors.

I disabled washer fluid and brake pad warnings (02724), but the 2 beeps still happened.

This means that the instrument panel is beeping for other than these errors.

I can't figure out why the instrument cluster is beeping. The ColorMFA should show all the standard errors if everything is connected correctly and the correct firmware is installed. Might need to carefully check the connections and test the wiring (this cannot be done from a photo).
Perhaps you have additional equipment installed? For example, lamp control... To display lamp errors, an additional connection to the ColorMFA is required (in addition to the standard instructions). It is possible that some other add-ons are installed.

The only thing that may beep but not display on the screen is the instrument cluster service interval (it needs to be reset via the VCDS). Everything else should be displayed.

There are no modifications to the car.

The only things which may not be basic / standard (but are from factory):
- the internal courtesy lights have ultrasonic motion sensors
- alarm button in B pillar on driver side

OK, so I got this answer on VW Mk 4 forum "AFAIK Colour MFA needs an extra cable added to one of the plugs to stop that brakepad and washerfluid sensor alert. "

What is this extra wire?

Is it this?


Where is it supposed to be soldered to?

I think you need to find someone who can fully check the installation of ColorMFA.
If everything is connected according to the instructions, no additional connections are necessary.
And there shouldn't be any loose wires (that aren't connected anywhere, as in your photo).

to make sure is not the "messages", try to enter the Service and extend the km for the specific warnings. I had similar problem but I was seeing briefly the messages. Just try from resetting Service(s).
